Can't speak of Germany but I consider old style patriotism is somewhat pointless. So I don't care for Serbians as whole, I just care for my closest surrounding: family, friends and neighbourhood. I don't give a shit what happens 3 blocks away. Also I can say I couldn't find right emotions and sentiment with all those historical figures of this country, be it poets, philosophers, writers or something else.

While this may be the case with the average joe, I think you'd be surprised how many people still appreciate these things. Don't expect anything from foreigners though.

If you care about these things the least thing you could do is vote for a party that try to preserve them. You overestimate Germans if you think they care. As a collective the Germans deserve they fate therefore. There are more important things, its just always sad to see history and civilizations die, not even by force.

The AfD was an insignificant mini party 7-8 years ago, and now it is very popular and will be more popular in each year, the peoples are waking up everywhere in Europe and in Germany too. You don't have to feel connected to the current mentality as you've described it and nor you have to pretend your country is the best in the world and making up excuses for its problems. But it's still your heritage - that's what you should be proud of. In other words, I get that those outside factors aren't making it easy, but they shouldn't matter for you much in this regard - it's just a bonus at best when they're the way they should.
