Whatever happens in Syria is absolutely not concern of NATO even if NATO member is directly involved. The alliance is purely defensive and its legal frame doesn't cover offensive activities of its members. Realistically in this situation Turkey have no reasons to expect backing from anyone.

Erdogan attacks regular Syrian army, not some terrorists. Erdogan want to overthrow Assad, because Assad beats Islamic State and other terrorist groups (Erdogan is their sponsor) and Erdogan deffend his investion. Erdogan was stealing Syrian oil for years, and now is it's over with that and that is one of the reasons for Erdogan's hysterical behavior.

Turkey can't win in Syria until Russia is present in Syria. USA will not risk WW3 because of crazy Erdogan, not Trump's USA.
