This is true. The Bulgars sought to be a European power and this could only be achieved through entering the civilised world through baptism and adopting the European tongue of the more numerous Slavs.

In official "Bulgarian history" also says that Bulgars adopted language from indigenous people.
There is thing also that Bulgars came more than 100.000 people on territory of Bulgaria,many modern historians have theory that these "SLAVIC MIGRATION" were actually BULGARS who came and were apsorbed in indigenous people on Balkan...
