So I finally got around to buying a DNA test, and I tested my mom, since I did it mostly for the genealogical value. Her known ancestry before taking the test was:
25% Württemberg
25% Upper Franconia
25% Sicily
6.25% Vorpommern
6.25% Schleswig-Holstein (with some Danish)
6.25% Germany, region unknown
3.125% Lower Saxony
3.125% Wielkopolskie, Poland

I was ready to rip Ancestry apart for the excess Eastern European and nonexistent Italian. But from looking at the DNA matches, it appears things are not as they seemed, and our Württemberger ancestor was likely from Farther Pomerania. So the elevated Slavic makes a lot more sense now. The Italian, on the other hand, is all but missed. She fits the pattern I've seen for part-Italians on AncestryDNA.
