Yea he is picky about projects too so he never just churns out stuff like other famous directors.

Also he was the EP of Tiny Toons Adventures, classic show. He has done a lot of work nobody knows about.

    Frank Darabont.
Do you know this name? Not? And, meanwhile, this person made the best film in history according to imDb and KinoPoisk (in the second case, even the two best). Everyone seems to have watched The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile, but few know the name of their creator. And rightly so - he did not deserve it. Why are these "great" films overrated - the main fault on the director - he shoots so polished, academically and facelessly. Not only that, in these creations there is no cinematic revelation, but they do not have the main thing - the author’s style. According to the textbook, Darabont simply squeezes tears from the viewer.

    Tim Burton.
Important tip: when you meet a person whose favorite director is Tim Burton, just run. He (or rather, she) either got stuck in 2007, or went nuts, or masturbates at night on fantasies about the intercourse of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter (which fits into the previous two points).
Burton is recognizable, but that’s all. He tries to be different from the rest, like a teenager with hormonal disorder. Tim gathered a huge fan base, but really did not achieve anything: he did not make a single masterpiece, lost his status of being the director of best “Batman” movie in history and did not even give Depp any of his outstanding roles. Burton will forever remain a strange gothic man, a hero of puberty, who is more pleasant to listen to than to watch.

Completely agree with this. I watched this movie 10 times or so, and the Godfather trilogy barely once. Better to spend time on Sopranos.

IMDB rank of The Shawshank Redemption remains huge mystery to me as well.

Regardless of ratings and statuses, I still consider these two films extremely worthy, despite their shortcomings.
By modern standards, this is an unattainable level.

Once upon a time in America is outstanding. James Woods is largely blackballed in Hollywood for his conservative political outlook. Very smart guy. He had a perfect SAT score in HS and had a full scholarship to MIT.

I liked both films too. But they are far from best ever, legendary or cult status.

He stole every scene he was in the film, and for me gave better preformance than DeNiro. Memorable actor.

I agree that Dunkirk was boring and the Dark Knight is overrated but I loved Interstellar and most of Nolan's films.

This isn't fault of director though, but I don't like his characters depth and film was messy, hard to follow and in my opinion going to fast just to appear more attractive.

PS Leonardo Dicaprio is too similar in many of his roles. I still don't consider him bad, but surely overrated to be considered best of his generation. This is offtopic though.
Imo, he's has been convincing in every role he had played. He convincingly turns from an angelic baby face to a corrupted thug like he did in "The Departed" which for me is his best role.

When they may not be Scorsese-tier, I have never been bored in a David Fincher or Guy Ritchie film. Something that casually happens in half of Tarantino's films.
