It is militarily and yes economically the strongest nation in the Balkans.

The West is profiting from doing business with Greece and vice versa. This is faciliated by the fact that Greece is part of the West.

The fact is, USA has about 3 Million Greeks while Russia has less than 100 thousand Greeks. If Greece needed help in a major conflict, it would come from Greeks living in the USA and Australia... Russia's Orthodox affinity with Greece is superficial and skin deep.
