I guess he only told about Turkmens & Tatars, which compose the Turkic origin of today's Balkan Turks & Balkan Tatars. Pechenegs, Avars & Cumans are assimilated into Slavs & other local Europeans.

I think some of them especially pechenegs became muslims and survived. At least there are pecheneg villages in turkey in my knowledge.
