Individual Americans can afford to give only so much, but we can do this: when we see homeless people whom we honestly believe to be veterans (or anyone else, for that matter), we can give them enough cash to buy a day pass on the local transit system. They could ride to an area homeless shelter, where they could get a meal and a roof over their heads.

Of course, there is the VA (Veteran's Administration) and individual government programs to help veterans, but this is a subject for another post/thread.

Seems like more and more European forces are using American equipment, weapons, and uniforms that resemble ours these days, even the Russians. Only way to tell them apart sometimes is the flag patches. Is this being done on purpose or coincidence?

To be honest, those kind of people tend to be so crazy that they can't really take advantage of what's offered to them; then again, not a lot is really offered, especially if you're that crazy.

I've been homeless but because I'm reasonably intelligent and decent, always found ways out, had friends who could help, could actually take care of myself (once, a homeless guy gave ME money.) and I am very aware of the benefits offered by the VA.

Veterans get first shot at Federal jobs, not to mention state and local-- if they can't find a job with that kind of help, they're pretty messed up. On the flip side, the VA itself is staffed by thousands of the potentially homeless.

Just because people make cardboard signs doesn't mean they are actually vets. Also our worst defeats are still more glorious than most's finest hours.
