The largest group was mixed and combined elements of all 3.

Facts? You are fantasizing in the usual rumanian note.

"During the Moldovan period of the town (1370-1540) the structures built during Mongolian period have been generally preserved, but also enriched with new elements"

It wasn't turned into a village, but the town, that was moldavian for almost 200 years, longer than the tatar rule, was destroyed and abandoned around 1540, that is following the devastating ottoman-tatar-wallachian-polish invasion of Moldova led by Suleiman (so called "the magnificent").

As for that book, simply a typical rumanian garbage forgery of the reality. There were no romanians in Basarabia of 1904.

Everything's alright with you? I didn't even say Romanian once, as everybody understands that by Moldovan I meant this.
The facts are in the book, which is written by authors from R. Moldova. It is very convenient to label everything that you don't like as fantasy.

I was talking about that book you made the thread about, published in Bucharest in 1904, in which Basarabia was full of romanians and not a moldavian soul in sight. Typical Romanian falsification of the truth.

Moldovans are a subset of Romanians. Everyone, including the authors who are born and bred in R. Moldova like me, know that. Stick to your containment threads.

Some common surnames in my grandparents' village in Southern Transylvania listed in no particular order. I don't know of a Romanian database that ranks their popularity. I'm curious if other Romanians or Moldovans have come across these names in real life.

    Spoiler!

Those in bold are present here:

    Opris (as Oprea)
    Silea
    Stefan (more common as Stefanet)
    Ursu
    Baias
    Barsan/Bursan
    Albu
    Ghinda (also as Chintea)
    Loebel (Jewish)
    Muntean

Ursu/Ursachi and Muntean/Munteanu are very common in Moldova.

For the popularity rankings, you can use Forebears. For example for Opris: https://forebears.io/surnames/opris
You will see the results on national level in the table firstly, and then if you click on the country, you will also get the ranking on county level.
Additionally, you can view the most common surnames per county. Example for Brasov county top surnames: https://forebears.io/romania/brașov-county#surnames

Should I do it for my Romanian/Moldovan matches in MH, or is that too much speculative?
