Default What motivates parents to change the handedness of their children?

I know of many parents who forced their naturally left handed child to be right handed, and there are also parents who force their children to be left handed. Is this mostly for religious reasons? Do they think using the right hand or left hand is inherently bad?

Don't know. I write with my right hand but do many other things equally well with both.

I can beat you up with both hands either right or left

For writing i use my right

I think its mainly Customs or Traditions or better in my opinion society that motivates parents to do such a thing

In many societies it was considered bad to be lefthanded or even wrong so parents where pushed to force their children to be right handed
even if they weren't by nature
The Talmud tells us that the only language the Torah could be translated into elegantly is Greek.

I’m pretty sure my parents forced me to be left handed, as they never liked seeing me write with my right hand. So now I only write and eat with my left hand, and everything else I do with my right. But I have taught myself to write with my right hand, so now I could use either.

Why would they do that? It's so much harder to write with the left hand wth, all the left handed classmates I had struggled with writing, and with basically anything, bc even the special chairs we had for when we had some talks in school, they had some tiny tables incorporated that were on the right side... That's where we had to write.

That just sounds like a nightmare.

Idk, maybe they wanted me to be “special”.

I’ve always had trouble telling left from right, and always had trouble with writing in school, and terrible handwriting.

I believe all lefties should pitch in baseball or at least give it a try.
