Greek Civilization, Western or Eastern?

I have many friends in the Greek far right, some are Greek nationalists/national socialists, some are national bolsevists.

First Group says Greeks are at the core of Western culture, the later say Greeks belong to the East

First group advocates that Greece should belong to the USA sphere of influence, while the second advocates better relations with Russia.

What do u think, Is Greek Civilization and Culture Western , or Eastern?

According to Spengler:

Ancient Greece/Rome = Classical/Apollonian Civilization

Western/Faustian Civilization is centered in Western Europe and began around 9/10th century

Modern Greece, like Russia and other Orthodox countries is something different, but similar to Russia since Peter the Great, Greece since independence from the Turks has been primarily influenced by Western Civilization and takes a primarily Western form.

In a similar manner , Greek civilization and Culture, is neither Western nor Eastern in my Opinion.

Greece is a land dominated by a superior civilization.
Eveything will fall into place, if we recognize Greece as a Civilization, not just a country.
In other wards, Greece cannot be compared with Western European countries , nor with the Islamic east.
Greece should be compared with Europe as a hole, or with the Islamic Civilization, or with the Chinese one.
As Alexander Dugin has admitted, there some countries, which disgust both western and eastern civilizations, which form their own Civilization, neither East, nor West

Personally i don't give a shit.I don't caregorize myself neither westerner or easterner.But Greece allys are mostly from the west(EU,NATO).

I'm not a fan of bouzoukia but I don't get that downplaying ,If we say it's trashy...don't westerners listen to trashy music ,trashy love ones or go to trashy places?are they all fans of theatre ,opera &classic music?
What's bad about bouzouki?don't westerners have guitars?

You misunderstanding me.I didn't mean that bouzoukia are trashy...but that is an eastern/ottoman lifestyle.It is coming from Turks due to ottoman occupation!

Greeks are the centre. Neither Western nor Eastern. Greece is the middle point of both, unique in its own way.

Western civilization is defined as the combination of 3 criteria
greko-roman heritage
Christianity
Roman law

So Russia is western, to start with. Not politically, culturally

Greek civilization is considered to be the founder of western civilization, but not all people in Greece has a western background that's for sure. The majority however does.

If you look at the Anatolian refugees who came here in 1923, you will find a series of cultural traits which are part of the middle east, but do not make up part of Greek proper tradition. Gyros: bouzoukia rebetiko and other middle eastern things that you will read here are originated from them

Greeks proper on thr other hand are clearly part of the west. Some are more southern european, others more Balkan, depending upon region and class

As for "Gyros", only a fool can think of it as part of traditional Greek cuisine

The only sure is that Greece obviously has less middle eastern/Turkic influence than southern Balkans, equal middle eastern influence as Spain and probably Sicily and more than the rest of Europe

Bouzoukia came in Greece more than a hudred of years after ottomans, and they do not represent all of Greek society

Why bouzoukia and not folklore, entehno, kantades etc which are all Greek music but western?

And gyros is heritage of people who came from anatolia, its not part of the Greek tradition.
