The number of coronavirus cases in Turkey is growing at a faster pace than infections did during the same phase in other countries around the world, according to a report by Oxford University's Our World in Data.
The report provides the trajectory of confirmed cases between countries, starting from the day that a particular country reached 100 confirmed cases.
Turkey has announced 1,529 coronavirus cases and a total of 37 people lost their lives since March 10 when the country declared its first confirmed case.
Turkey has temporarily shut down schools, closed public spaces such as bars, restaurants, and gyms, and called off weekly communal prayers at mosques. Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry announced on Sunday that people aged 65 and over, as well as those suffering from chronic illnesses, were restricted from leaving their homes.
Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on March 20 the coronavirus would likely peak in Turkey in two to three weeks.
