Delos and Santorini really looks like a paradise for me.
I read that their economic crisis is over though. Greece's economy even though much more advanced than their neighbors is still closer to Romania's and Bulgaria's than that of Italy.

They don't "deal with it" in any specific way, it is what it is. Greece is richer and more civilized because of tourism (beautiful islands, beaches, ancient ruins, etc.) sea access for better trade & commerce, and their help from Western Europe ever since the Greek Revolution all the way to the Cold War and so on. Other Balkan countries didn't have it as lucky as Greece unfortunately.

Well, we happen to be in a geostrategic focal point. We have developed merchant shipping quite a lot, which has helped with our trade and our industrial activity. We never went through Communism. We always pushed for policies that were liberal fiscally.
