Default How do Greece's neighbours deal with Greece being much richer?

Despite Greece's economic crisis, it remains to be a richer country than Albania, Kosovo, Macedonia or anywhere in the Balkans + Turkey. How do the Greeks view their northern neighbours and vice-versa? Is Greece paradise for them?

    Greeks live from tourism...
If it wasn't for their islands, beaches and resorts there wouldn't have been a 'rich Greece'. They also have a lot of debt, surprise surprise, NOT!
As for my people, there are barely any who work or live in Greece, mostly married women in Greece. Macedonians used to work in Greece, mainly in the resorts before the crisis during the summer period. Other than that, the Greeks are not much richer, especially not those from the north who are flooding my home country and Bulgaria for shopping, dentists, etc. because it's much cheaper than Greece. They also like to spend their money in the numerous casino's in Macedonia.
Mostly the flow of money is two way, while the Greeks spend their money in my country, we spend ours in their during the summer for holidays

As you can see they have deep inferiority complex.

We're one of the most unfortunate geographies surrounded by goatfuckers & chicken thieves , god's willing we'll restore our "neighborhood" soon .

Look at their glorious coastline. Of course that would make them the richest out of the countries you mentioned. Not to mention they were not held back by communism.

Our GDP per capita on purchasing power parity is 350 billion as of now. Not even the 30 billion are generated from tourism. So, your fairytale seems nice and convincing, but we're not dependent on tourism.

And some of the citizens of northern Greece come here exactly for what you said: the prices of goods are immensely bigger than in any Balkan country. The standard of living in northern Greece, even if smaller than that in the south, is larger than any Balkan country still.

And before the crisis, our nominal GDP per capita was 40k and in PPP was about 50k. Many times bigger than all of the eastern half of Europe.

Yes Greece is a richer country. And? It's obvious by the resources you have.

It really got me wondering... How did Greece ever manage to have such a high standard of living compared to its neighbours. Western European countries are more homogenous in terms of income. In Greece's case, it is often portrayed as some sort of oasis in the middle of the Balkans.

We could say Greek economic miracle was a lie and that it relied heavily on debt or...? The Balkans are so far behind in terms of income compared to Western European countries. Countries like Albania and Kosovo have a really low GDP per capita (PPP).

    No pun intended.
