I highly doubt about the latter, Greeks had little to no recent interactions with muslims in the period that you describe (unlike Bulgarians) to be closer to muslims from any aspect, and Greeks were merchants and sailors to a much higher degree than Bulgarians, from every aspect i doubt that Greeks were more close minded or less western than Bulgarians.. I mean, how can a merchant and a sailor from a country which had been an independent kingdom for a whole century be more closed minded than a farmer from a country that had just become independent from a despotic empire?
not only there was a difference, Greeks were much richer than Bulgaria back then, today difference between the two countries is smaller than before communism
Greeks were more western oriented in all of post 1200's history, and from every aspect because of having more contacts with the west. But I will agree that at least before 1200 Bulgarians were more western like and in fact more western oriented than eastern oriented
still, in my opinion in a comparison between Greece and Bulgaria it would be better (from a Bulgarian perspective) to focus on the last decade that the two countries came somewhat closer than 80-100 years ago

Except there was a huge fucking difference. Brennus posted a chart of the income per capita in 1938 in Europe. We were at 7,000$ while you below 1,800$. And that difference was due always. From the 1900s Greece was above 5,000k dollars per capita in income. So, the same, you said?
And what? What? We were close-minded? I'm sorry, but our film production, which was ridiculously intense during 1950-1980, shows completely otherwise. I saw many films from other western European countries of the same period, and we're practically the same. And I'm saying movies because they depicted what was the situation in each country. And Greece was literally progressive in politics, really, really consumerist and the people had really western attitudes. And that again was from way, way earlier. Our student community for example was western leaning since independence.

Only thing we have achieved by having higher GDP per capita, is to be flauded by immigrants from the Balkans and eastern Europe, nothing more.

This is GDP per capita in local prices.
In terms of Nominal GDP, which is the amount of salaries and wages payed, Greece is double than Bulgaria.
This means we Greeks are payed double wages, but we pay more for good and services than Bulgarians do , for the same products.

Better not make this thread an "anti-Bulgarian" one
Bulgaria is a country with much to offer and especially for Greeks who like skiing and snowboarding like me it's very popular and its snow resorts are better than Greek one

Yes, it's painful and hard for us seeing master race Anaximander flexing with Rolex watch.
