Just to be picky: Austria is really Central Europe, not Northern Europe.

(Yes I know most Austrians look pretty Germanic, but still).

This is what Bertil Lundman wrote in a book in the 1960s:

The outlook for the continued survival of the Northern man is dangerously uncertain, even if disregarding possible political dangers from the East (or possibly Southeast). The number of children since the first World War and especially since 1930 has been too low, so that foreign labourers, in part from rather distant peoples, are immigrating in growing numbers. (The most capable of the recent immigrants are the often intellectual refugees from the small Baltic States.)

When he wrote this, immigration was mostly consisting of Finns, Serbs, Italians, Greeks and a small bit of Turks. Today, Finnish women have married Swedish men to the extent of greatly reducing the Finnish surnames among the second and third generation. Statistically, they found that the most common surnames among the "Sweden Finns" were identical to those of full Swedes, with the most popular being Andersson. So in other words, you could say that they have mixed heavily despite a poor reputation.

Contrary to forums like this, for the most part interethnic couples are very common. Although eastern Europeans seem to marry more with other eastern Euros. With Greeks I've noticed a lot of marrying with Albanians or western Europeans.
