I've seen people in Russia playing with and keeping bears in the back of trucks in cities. Such a thing would be unthinkable here. The brown bears in this continent are known to be very aggressive and violent.

American Bears aren't even that aggressive. Indian Bears (the ant eater ones) are a lot more aggressive and kill more people per year.

They were probably "tamed" over time. You kill the most aggressive ones, leaving the more docile ones alive to pass on their docile genes.
