I would say in general the paleness of Europeans is overrated... of course Europeans are the palest people in the world but some people are not aware that most Europeans can tan, especially the continental ones, so they overrate their paleness.

Just to clarify, this is what I mean by a typical European olive-skinned type, which is lighter and different to the kind of olive skin prevalent in the Middle East:



This type of colouring is found in at least a third of people in Portugal, Spain, Central/Southern Italy (Northern Italy a bit less), Albania, Greece and some Balkan countries. Individuals like this also exist in France and sometimes in Northern and Central Europe.
