Default Is it hard to replace an existing turntable in an old stereo console?

I have a 1967 Magnovox and the turntable is kind of fussy. Mostly the issue is with the tone arm. I have two paper weight like structures in the back that hold together with tape, and sometimes the tone arm will not be able to adjust properly when utilized for playing. This has caused the needle to drag in some cases. I was thinking of replacing the tone arm, but that seems complicated. I was just wondering if I should take out the old turntable and replace it with a modern one. The problem is, I don't know if the modern turntable will need a pre-amp or if it will even be compatible. Should I just buy a new record player and sit it on top of the old one without integrating to the internal speakers ? The radio still works great. I don't want to junk it. Let me know what Y'all think.

1967 Magnavox! Wow, 53 year old turntable, that’s a relic. Unfortunately,I don’t know bro, but maybe you should check YouTube for any videos. If that doesn’t work, then buy a new turntable. I love musical Turntables! I prefer analog over digital any day of the week, I guess you can call me old fashion.

Well from everything I have read, it's better to replace it with the existing turntable. On ebay you can actually find some that match. The reason is that if you connect a modern turntable you will need a pre-amp as the sound quality will not match the existing system. If I can get the same model turntable I should be able to remove the old one and put in the new one with the existing cable connectors.

You can also try Amazon as well, but personally, I buy most of my stuff on ebay. I’m more of a buyer. I never sold anything on eBay but I would love to try. Though, unfortunately, then again I would have to report the money I make to the IRS! I’m better off doing a garage sale lol

I would order the same model that you know the problem with (that isn't your problem) and just use it for spare parts.
