    Yes, but, AFAIK, the position of modern Ukrainian authorities is that they are a part of Ukrainian ethnos.

    I think the answer is: Danes.

    Swedes and Norwegians have stronger Non-Germanic admixtures than Danes.

    But with Slavs it is more complicated because we don't know exactly where the Proto-Slavic homeland was.

    And even if it was in Polesia, then that's a region which borders 4 countries (Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Poland).

    Not only them, for example academic DNA sample from Zhytomyr Oblast also seems to be Balkan-admixed.

    And that's located pretty far to the north.

    Danes have a lot of Alpine-Borriebes, who are not stereotypical for germanic people as a whole, but yeah i get your point.

    Back to the Slavs: at least we know (or can assume) the Proto Balto-Slavic homeland, from there the ProtoSlavs intermixed with local Ladogans. Still this mixing was on a lower level than its typical for other areas where Uralid influences are stronger present- even today.

    I was talking more about genetics than phenotypes.

    What Non-Germanic admixtures do Danes have? There is a bit of Slavic according to this study, but only in Danish islands (not in mainland Jutland):

    https://www.abstractsonline.com/Plan...4-ddac3db6fc2a

    "Abstract:
    Denmark’s genetic history has never been studied in detail. In this work, we analysed genetic and anthropometrical data from ~800 Danish students as part of an outreach activity promoting genomic literacy in secondary education. DNA analysis revealed remarkable homogeneity of the Danish population after discounting contributions from recent immigration. This homogeneity was reflected in PCA and AMOVA, but also in more sophisticated LD-based methods for estimating admixture. Notwithstanding Denmark’s homogeneity, we observed a clear signal of Polish admixture in the East of the country, coinciding with historical Polish settlements in the region before the Middle Ages. In addition, Denmark has a substantially smaller effective population size compared to Sweden and Norway, possibly reflecting further lack of strong population structure."

    ^^^
    Before the Middle Ages = before 1050 AD in Danish chronology:

    https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Middelalderen

    Tidlig middelalder (ca. 1050-1200)
    Hjmiddelalder (1200-1400)
    Senmiddelalder (1400-1536)

    ====

    Then another possible source of Non-Germanic admixture in Denmark would be the Cimbri tribe, who were Celtic according to some theories:

    http://www.davidkfaux.org/Cimbri-Chronology.pdf

    =====

    Norwegians have British admixture from immigrants who came to Norway from Britain during the Viking Age, according to this study:

    https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/703405v1 - ancient Norwegian samples (older than the Viking Age) did not have this admixture

    Swedes have Uralic / Finno-Ugric and Balto-Slavic admixtures. As well as German (some of Sigtuna aDNA samples plot like East Germans - they could actually be East Germans from places like Mecklenburg etc., because these samples are dated to the 1200s, when East German colonization had already taken place).

    Balto-Slavic DNA could be mediated to Sweden also by East Germans (who participated in founding Stockholm and other Swedish towns).

    Northern Swedes and Northern Norwegians have also Siberian admixture from the Saami people.

    I mean mixed with Tatars, Armenians, Jews. Ukraine was very multi-ethnic.

    Amount is what matters. Slovaks also have some Balkan but they turn out 85% Slavic which is huge.
    Certain Rusyns have very big Balkan admixture.

    That's true, but it's not enough tu surpass Eastern Slavs and Poles. They're a little too much south-shifted for that.

    I voted Poles because from my own experience, living not very far from the Polish border, they do look pretty what I'd call Balto-Slavic or Eastern to me as a German. There is not so much overlap across the border as some people may think (in my own perception). Ukrainians can look pretty slavic too but I've seen a few darker types among them that I had not seen before in Poles and which are not typically associated with the Slavic look. Unfortunately I cannot say much about Belarussians. The few that I saw looked pretty Slavic to me too.

    Well areas near the border are inhabited largely by Former Eastern Poles (deported from what is now Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine after WW2):

    They are 30-40% in Zachodniopomorskie (here mainly from Lithuania/Belarus) and 40-65% in Lubuskie and Lower Silesia (Ukraine/Belarus).

    I think idea that Slavs were blond or super northeastern shifted from the start is incorrect. Belarusians and northern Russians for example, are lightened by Baltic and Finnic admixture.
