    Juste une remarque : Joubert n'a rien de spécifiquement provençal. Ses deux pôles de diffusion sont le Centre-Ouest Atlantique et la région de Lyon. Il est plutôt moins présent en zone occitane qu'ailleurs.

    Jaubert est par contre essentiellement méridional.

    Aubert est fréquent en Provence mais tout autant en Auvergne, en Normandie et en Lorraine, alors...

    Tu peux aussi ajouter Granier, caractéristique du Midi méditerranéen, version locale du Grenier d'oïl.

    Actually waiting for more and for your impressions.
    Interesting.

    Well, my impression is that I find most surnames very similar to Catalan ones at first sight.

    The ones ending in -el, which have an equivalent ending in -ell:

    Carbonnel = Carbonell
    Maurel = Maurell
    Aubanel = Albanell
    Chanterel = Cantarell
    Pourcel = Porcell
    Negrel = Negrell
    Castel = Castell

    Some diphthonguizing in -ier don't diphthonguize in Catalan:

    Berenguier = Berenguer
    Reynier = Renyer or Renyé
    Riquier = Riquer
    Colombier = Colomer or Colomé
    Andrieu = Andreu

    Some which just keep the syllable-closing l's instead of changing it to u:

    Aubert = Albert
    Miquèu = Miquel
    Daumas = Dalmàs
    Rigaud = Rigalt
    Mauras = Malràs
    Aubanel = Albanell

    Some that have final n-dropping in Catalan:

    Jourdan = Jordà
    Martin = Martí
    Brun = Bru
    Roman = Romà

    Some others that are identical or close:

    Cayol = Callol
    Rey = Rei
    Coulomb = Colom
    Pascal = Pasqual
    Manent = Manent
    Reyne = Reina
    Fabre = Fabra
    Imbert = Imbert
    Mouret = Muret
    Blanc = Blanc
    Joubert = Jovert

    And then, there are some which exist as Catalan words but are not surnames here (as far as I know):

    Pignoly = Pinyolí
    Bagnoly = Banyolí
    Pagnol = Panyol
    Caire = Caire
    Mistral = Mestral

    And that's all.

    Very interesting Count Arnau ! I think that some of our names can be from Catalan origins ! for exemple : Raimond Bérenger IV de Prouvènço (en Català : Ramon Berenguer), was one of our count who was Catalan, he made the Catalan's arms Provençals arms, and he create the city of Barcilouneto (in homage of Barcilouno ; Barcelona !).

    Another proof of the Provençal-Catalan brotherhood

    (PS : Can you post your response in the comments of the blog please, it can be interesting for the lectors thanks).
