I know it is an Occitano-Romance language but Portuguese accent never had anything to do with that language branch. If anything we had contact with Provençal/Occitan literary culture but that doesn't say much, Old Occitan had a big reputation back in the late Middle Ages and poets from other western Romance languages were influenced by it in various ways.

Flamenco is not even Andalusian folklore, it has an origin and evolution (and an expressiveness/feeling) similar to the blues/rock, before the 20th century it was very basic, but it evolved as a genre of stage and has been adapted to modern rhythms and fussions
Flamenco vs Andalusian Folklore
During the 19th century, flamenco's musical style was taking shape on the substrate of traditional Andalusian dance and music, with diverse and ancient origins. But flamenco is not Andalusian folklore, but flamenco is an artistic performing genre. Never, flamenco has gone from being a music of minorities.
With the emergence of professional cantaores and the transformation of popular songs by gypsies, the style was far from traditional tunes. The popular is subjected by flamenco to a very great stylization, taking it to a cultured level, but without losing its popular essence.
Flamenco, however, is considered a top-level tourist attraction in Andalusia. Flamenco is an art, which has also been studied as a doctorate at the University.

As a musical genre, flamenco seems to me a filthy rubbish.
