It's difficult to draw the line, frequently. I agree with Teutone on that.

There are countries that clearly belong to one area geographically, but other spans several hundred of kilometers (if not thousands), and things get much more blurry like France but also Russia, Italy...

Eurovoc only draws lines between nations and not regions is also important to note.

It's ridiculous for all those countries in eastern europe to be grouped together I guess it should be renamed to "other".

It does not go specific on Regions, if France as a whole is Western Europe it will put the entire country in it.

Again, this is the offical definition of the EU.

Yet I think the people that made that defintion are more on point than most other maps I have seen.

Especially putting Germany and Austria to Central Europe is the most cringe definition.

There was this certain Austrian gentleman in the past who took the even cringier decision of hooking up France, Norway, Denmark and the Low Countries to CET. That one goes right on cue with the EU definition. But then again ? Didn't this whole EU idea originate with him ?
