Peron. Was. Not. A. Socialist. (Certainly not in the Soviet-Chinese-Cuban sense, at any rate).

As the better-educated and less fanatical Argentinians would themselves tell you, he was a corporatist, which has/had elements of both socialism and capitalism.

More generally, of all the double standards prevalent in this forum, this is for me one of the more glaring ones. Peron's crimes and human rights abuses were not remotely in the same league as Franco's (or Mussolini's), although at different points he was allied to both of those leaders and even spent time living in Fascist Italy before being elected, as well as Falangist Spain after the coup which overthrew him. His economic policies, while certainly to the Left of almost anything before it in Argentina's history, were not remotely Communist-like. So why do so many right-wingers here like Franco but not Peron?

As for Franco, in addition to the aforementioned statist economic policies and opposition to the US embargo on Cuba, he also opposed the Vietnam War and liked Tito.

Why you keep coming up with that lie?

Its a well documented fact that he was a anti-communist and provided Troops against vietcong.

    Vietnam first of your lie:
Spain played a small role on the Vietnam War when Francisco Franco, Spain's anti-communist dictator, agreed to aid the United States and South Vietnam by deploying a secret medical and combat group throughout the conflict.

    Cuba your second lie:

In spite of Franco's anticommunism, Cuba and Spain held diplomatic relations after Fidel Castro came into power and became Prime Minister of Cuba in 1959.[6] In 1960, Prime Minister Castro expelled the Spanish ambassador Juan Pablo de Lojendio e Irure[7] after an argument on TV. The Spanish ambassadorship in Cuba would remain vacant for the next 15 years, however, diplomatic relations between both nations continued at the level of chargé d'affaires.

    I found nothing on Tito.

Duffmann once posted a very lengthy letter Franco sent to Truman warning that intervention in Vietnam was folly, also saying that Ho Chi Minh was a patriot who'd keep China at bay. The expulsion of the Spanish Ambassador to Cuba was mostly a stunt, and the crucial point is that, unlike almost all other Western Hemisphere countries at the time, Spain still kept its embassy open in Havana despite it. Moreover, trade between Spain and Cuba vastly increased after the Revolution - such was the close relationship between the two countries/regimes that Castro even declared five days of national mourning when Franco died!

The only lie is that Franco's Spain was an ultra right-wing paradise both socially and economically, when in truth it was actually a lot more contradictory and heterodox than that.

I got sources for my claims, no "someone posted a letter".

Its a fact he sent soldiers to Vietnam and Castros relation was just business, the relationship wouldnt have been problematic at all without Castro.

You know nothing about realpolitiks if you dont know that trade and profit surpassed ideology. Neverless Franco Spain was ultra obvious a Western unoffical Nato ally.

For the way he killed and butchered socialists and sent troops to support my country and uplifted Spain, every right wing Western European should value him.
