Default How can a stadium cost 1,9 billion dolars?

Well, I´m atonished. That´s the official cost of the new stadium for the Raiders in Las Vegas.

    https://lasvegassun.com/news/2017/ma...ium-las-vegas/

    https://www.news.com.au/sport/sports...2b16fbfe997588

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-f...-idUSKCN1UE2LD

It seems to be a modern and beautiful stadium, I don´t deny that.

But how can a stadium cost so much? It´s not even a really big stadium, just 65-70.000 seats. There are hundreds of stadiums around the world bigger than that.

I have readen that the soil has increased the price so much, but it is still Las Vegas, which has plenty of it (it´s on the desert)

Just if they would buy a bigger stadium in a central avenue of an important city (me as a spaniard I´m thinking about Camp Nou or Santiago Bernabeu, placed in some of the best zones of Barcelona and Madrid), how much could it cost? Should the USA sell any state to buy something like that?

The cost of steel and copper have risen so much over the years. The traiffs had an effect on cost on the materials used to build the stadium. Also the construction workers working are unionized. Meaning the skilled labor cost much more than other places. Not to mention all the added "luxury" enchanced features the stadium did not have before. It would have been cheaper if the stadium wasn't located in the strip. Land in the strip is expenisve to purchase since it's where all the tourist are located.

I think they are making an NFL football village in Inglewood. Completely redeveloping the area and the land costs a lot in LA. It's crazy to think that 1.9 billion is modest for an NFL stadium.

The cost of the land and plumbing alone was probably half of that .

Atlético de Madrid builded a stadium with the same capacity than Raiders´ one by 310 million euros (337 million dollars with the actual exchange euro-dollar, probably something more with the exchange of some years ago)

For the price of Raider´s, could be built 6 Metropolitanos. For the price of SoFi, 16!!!!

LA Clippers will make their own arena near to SoFi too.
