Sibiu was carefully prepared to become "the gastronomy capital of Romania"- a tourist trap. The millennials don't live long enough to remember what was Sibiu before the EPP (CDU-CSU) friendly governments start pouring ridiculous amounts of money in that small city ass... The entire county of Sibiu - the city and the villages around, before Romania's EU ascension, was known primarily among Romanians for the fatty-smelly alpine sheep cheese, the rich shepherds, the Brukenthal european art museum - a few Renaissance paintings, a couple of old books and the annual Jazz festival, not the slightest resemblance with "culinary capital of Romania" (Bucharest all the way baby), rather a grey and small Transylvanian trade-outpost burg, strategically and economically located at the Carpathians natural pass, build entirely by the german colonists for the german colonists in Middle Ages, ruled for a while by the younger son of communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu, Nicu. Somehow, because of the ethnic german leftovers was perceived a bit western shifted, but not as much as the western located city of Timisoara.
