Not unlike the Dutch then - although those can range from Catholic, to Lutheran to Calvinist. In many things, we're pretty much a Nordic country anyway. Having more in common with let's say Denmark than even with Germany.

Yep. Time to bring back the armies and build some concrete walls on the borders.

In other words - what I advocate is that the Netherlands join a certain existing organisation: the Nordic Council. The Dutch may not be Scandinavians but culture-wise we do have a lot in common with them, historically speaking we have always been partners, we're fellow Germanics, our social and environmental laws are pretty much the same, our education systems have a lot in common. I don't see why it wouldn't work. We're all small countries. I also think we, at the same moment, should rekindle the old Oslo Agreements (but this time without Belgium and Luxembourg) and work closely together.

A proper North Sea free trade area would be good, nations states working collaboratively, you don't need an unnecesary bureaucracy arguing for itself, first and foremost for that.

I think the problem there would be the British economic model. Were they to adopt a Rhenish or Nordic model - then that problem wouldn't exist. The Netherlands is quite interesting in that we can be classified as both Rhenish and Nordic.

^ The strongest cultural thing: Jantelagen. The tall-poppy syndrome. Or as we say here: having your head above the level that is being mowed. Basically like tall grass. A bit idea.
