I dont know whats going all with all the Belerusian parting ways with Russia news. When Russia took Crimea, Lukashenko said that they should take all of Ukraine. Then only a year ago Lukashenko was eager to join Russia as a single country, and it was Putin who rejected the idea. WTF has happened since then?

it's far from the truth, Belarus never recognized Crimea as a part of Russia

As I understand the problem which had recently arisen between Putin and Lukashenko is because Putin wanted to legalize his official reign in a new status as a president of a new state Russia+Belarus where Lukashenko loses his role of a president. After that Russia started to blackmail Luka by higher prices on oil and gas. Luka began to blackmail back by inviting American diplomats and searching for other sources of oil and gas.

At the end Putin found a different decision to change Russian constitution to legalize his new two terms as a president.

Lukasheko had been struggling to keep his independence from Russia.

Time to organise ourselves. Let's call ourselves the Organisation for Potato Exporting Countries. Or OPEC.

Lukashenko has seized power and will not give it to anyone. Because power is his salvation, physical. If he loses it, he will be literally torn, because he has crossed too many roads. He will be judged for missing politicians, for seized businesses, for the huge number of deaths due to the non-recognition of this virus, and so on. While he is in the palace, he is alive.
Lukashenko will not be satisfied with the status of just a wealthy pensioner without authority. He may not be given protection and guarantees for bad behavior, that’s the reason for the hysterics.
And he also owes Russia for resources a lot.
