I celebrated my 37th birthday this week. It was a serene day spent at Bloedel Reserve, a lovely botanical garden and nature preserve here in Washington state. I walked the mossy paths of endless green with a touch of sadness in my heart. Do you ever feel a little sad on your birthday? A special kind of sadness that you only feel on that day?

A few days later I went on a trip to the coast to the world's longest beach. Long Beach, WA.

My favorite spot was Deadman's Hollow. A magical beach cove that gained it's name from the deceased mariners who were frequently washed ashore there. I found Long Beach to be hauntingly beautiful. A seemingly depressed town lost in time.
