This has nothing to do with politics or Ardern. It came about with the resource management act which was introduced 3 decades ago to stop/curb bad developments and abuse of the land, sea and air within NZ's realm. During that same era, building standards were changed due to certain industry lobbying which created the "leaky home crisis" thath cost home owners, the local councils and Govt billions of $ in remedial work to tens of thousand of homes and apartment buildings. The response to the latter issue were new standards which have increased the cost of building exponentially. Councils were forced to permit and inspect "every" building.
Some neighbours are grumpy arseholes.
