It’s a pou or in this instance, a pouwhenua which marks the entrance to Herangi. There was another on the other side of the township marking the entrance, exit on the highway. They’re not too common a sight but this is the king country, an area with a strong tribal identity. A local carver has obviously been commissioned and paid for these.
Nine out of ten concerns are completely unfounded.

I'm sitting here while it's dumping rain thinking about last summer. I built an outdoor shower last June during a sweltering heatwave. The shower only has cold water, but it is very refreshing in the summertime on hot days, and it has an excellent view. I just have to be careful of delivery ppl. Sometimes they go the wrong way to drop a package off. I think this summer i will build some privacy walls for the shower.

For some reason i attract moths.
These two are by far the cutest that have landed on me.
This Pacific Green Sphinx moth found its way into my house one evening and landed right on my shoulder while I was knitting. They were my little buddy for a couple hours until i put them back outside.
This beauty landed on my arm while i was weeding the garden. An Agreeable Tiger moth.
They hung out with me for about a half hour until they pee/pooed on me.

Agreed! Cute but also considerate by turning our winter clothes into summer clothes by taking the time to make air holes magically appear on the surface of the fabric.

Hot water beach, Coromandel, where people dig holes in the beach and create hot spring pools that wash away with the tide. Yesterday was a blustery Easterly day. Usually, this coast is relatively calm with slow, low swells.
The Alderman islands 15 kms out from Tairua, Coromandel.
Nine out of ten concerns are completely unfounded.
