Ocean Beach, Whangarei. mid summer a few years back. Fish in the sea, mussels on the rocks and this end of the beach all to ourselves. Not uncommon if you avoid the "popular beaches".

Mercer. 40 minutes south of Auckland next to the Waikato river. This is a very familiar rural landscape in much of New Zealand.

That is very very close, if i can remember, to where Catkin lived in New Zealand. I'll show her the pictures.

Mt Ruapehu viewed from near the top of Mt Ngauruhoe. Climbing the side of Ngauruhoe is best done in winter due to the geology. A lot of loose volcanic scree.

My son taking in the view of the blue lake along the Tongariro crossing, a popular hike. All the lakes are volcanic craters and the area is still active.

The tongariro crossing is a great walk. Very popular today and unfortunately, it feels like you're walking a main street in "insert busy location here".

In winter, you need to be very careful but as the warm weather walkers aren't there, it's peaceful. And so as long as you're prepared, great fun.
