Where is your German ancestry from?

Including Austria and Switzerland etc. I'm curious, because while we have few German members, we have tons of TA members with partial German ancestry.
Especially curious about American members who have German roots.

Mine:

Hessen (majority)
Alsace (one line)

I don't have any German ancestors but I think to be cool and American you need at least a little German ancestry

I dont have any recent german ancestors that I know of but FtDNA says I have a a donau swabian or similar german group derrived mtdna. That is less then a 1% of my DNA though and he said it is within the time span of 600 years. So I dont really have german ancestry.

My German ancestry is primarily from Northern and Eastern Germany (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern + Silesia).
Weirdly enough, I look pseudo-Alpine and therefore more Southern German/Austrian than Northern German though (probably due to my Latino admixture)...

I'm pretty sure I stand out like a sore thumb in North Germany with my swarthy appearance.

You have some weird ideas about Germany. You probably will stick out everywhere in Germany if you're triracial.

I live in Germany and people think I'm a local. They are pretty surprised when I tell them I have foreign roots, too.
