Karachay-Balkar people speak Turkic language of Kipchak branch but racially they are of Taurid/Mtebid type. Many Karachay-Balkar families have roots from Svaneti region of Georgia, Kabarda Circassians and Digora Ossetes. Their mixed origin is also reflected by their genetics: R1a-Z2123 (27,5 % among Karachays and 26 % among Balkars) and G2a-P15 (31 % among Karachays and 22,5 % among Balkars) are their main haplogroups.

Circassians (Adyghe) are aboriginals of Western Caucasus. After Tamerlane invasion Circassian tribe of Kabarda under prince Inal settled in Central Caucasus. After Russian conquest majority of Western Circassians fled to Ottoman empire. Nowadays Turkey has more Circassians than Caucasus. They speak a language of Abkhaz-Adyghe family. Their racial type is Pontid with Taurid admix among Kabardinians. Major haplogroups are G2a-P303 (54 % among Adyghe and 40 % among Kabarda) and R1a-Z280 (20% among Circassians of Karachay-Circassian republic). Images of Circassians:
