Neutral. Is bullfighting a pagan ritual?

The cultural aspects of it seem to be religious, hence the importance of the art form.

I feel unconvinced to go to either side thus far.

An ancient rite from Pagan times, reminiscent of the Roman arenas. As a spectacle is full of contradictions, it is both morbid and exuberant. Sadistic yet artistic.

I don't like the animal cruelty part but I do like when the bull gets the toreros or jumps to the stands and scares the crowd away, it is very amusing and rewarding to see, therefore I'm in favour.

Only forcados deserve some respect and that I cheer for them because they don't hurt the bull, altough I see no point in risking their lives just for the lulz. But what the hell, I guess it's like practicing any radical sport, they do it for the adrenaline or something.

Toreros are surely a bunch of sado-masochist psychopaths. But at least there is a certain nobility and honour code around this tradition that is unforgiving to the reputation of the toreros if they suck or make the bull suffer more than the "necessary".

Rules should be changed. Instead of getting stabbed into the body the whole fight. The sword should be replaced by something like a whip until the last deadly stab on the head, than the Torrero should use the sword and make sure to kill the bull as fast as possible. Let's be honest the artistic perfomance is not the problem. The problem is that the animal is being tortured for around 20 minutes with multiple stabs given purposely to the body to not kill it.

What stabs are you talking about ? The torero uses the sword only at the end of the faena to kill the bull. The sword must be inserted in a way that trespasses the heart of the bull in order to kill the beast as quickly as possible. That is how it should be done. If the bull takes long to die it is considered a fiasco and the torero is humilliated and defeated.

Possibly the "stabs" you talked about are banderillas, those are more like harpoons and are stabed/stuck in a specific area of the bull back.

Yes I mean the harpoons. They should be abandoned. Their main purpose is being tools for torture.

Frankly I’m not only for bullfighting, but I would love to see various other types of fighting, including gladiatorial fights between humans that allow participants to die, or fights between different animals: for example, a lion against a tiger. I would also like to see the battle between the polar bear and the big Ussuri tiger. Also I do not mind the death penalty and watching public executions.

Torturing the animal just for pleasure is unnecessary. Bullfights took place a long time ago in Rio, but that was banned. Despite still have similar things like vaquejada or rodeos. Although many people say that the rodeo is not as aggressive as bullfights. But as a biologist I don't approve it.

I hate any cruelty to animals so I'm against it and can't see how it is entertaining to torture an animal. I'm also against the live animal export trade. I don't eat meat so I'm a bit extreme compared to many people. Anyway that's my view on the topic.
