Karakachanov proposes Macedonia and Bulgaria to seek monument to Goce Delchev in Greece
Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov on Facebook on the occasion of the 117th anniversary of Goce Delchev's death called on Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia before Greece to raise the issue of erecting a monument to his death near the village of Banica, today's Greece.
"On this day, 117 years ago, Goce Delchev died heroically. Near the village of Banica, Sersko (modern-day Greece), Delchev entered the battle and lost his life, without waiting for the outbreak of the Ilinden Uprising a few months later. This would be a good opportunity, together with our brothers from Northern Macedonia, as the Good Neighbor Agreement states, to celebrate the memory of Delchev together. "I hope that the reason why this did not happen is not the unpreparedness of the politicians in Skopje, but the coronavirus."
Karakachanov writes on Facebook.
Karakachanov also points out in the announcement that "while we are arguing over whose Delchev is, his grave is unmarked somewhere behind the altar of the church in the destroyed village of Banica."
"Isn't it time together, as fraternal states, before our partner Greece to raise the issue of erecting a memorial to Goce Delchev and to celebrate his memory there together?" And maybe there in the ruins of the village of Banica, where the spirit of Goce Delchev is still, we will get reconciliation and enlightenment about what he really was. "
states Karakachanov.
