Colombia is a free land and as such we don't really put up with Muslim beliefs, which are often perceived as oppressive and backwards. Armenia remains true to its roots at recognising the Armenian genocide and I hope that mural gets taken down.

Turkey is wasting money. They really should mind their own business and stop spreading shit religions.

Yes indeed, Uruguay is the first country to recognize the Armenian Genocide. Uruguay acknowledged the Armenian Genocide as a genocide, and recognized it in 1965; as such, Uruguay set the trend for other countries to recognize it.

In January, 2018, the coastal city of Punta del Este, Uruguay, celebrated (with a large crowd) the "Armenia Square" inauguration. A monument-sculpture of an Armenian Woman (dedicated to the people of Armenia) was erected in the town square.

The action is a sign of friendship that takes place within the framework of the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Eastern Republic of Uruguay and the Republic of Armenia, and the centennial of the Armenian diaspora in Uruguay. In addition, during the event Punta del Este and Ijevan were declared sister cities.

By 1900, Armenians were immigrating to Uruguay. The majority of the 20,000 Armenian Christian Diaspora is located in urbanized areas, especially the capital, Montevideo.

Between 1974 and 1975, the Armenian General Benevolent Union, a non-profit Armenian organization that preserves and promotes the Armenian identity and heritage through educational, cultural and humanitarian programs, established an educational center in Uruguay which was completed in two phases. The first to be completed was the Nubarian Elementary School in honor of the founder of the AGBU, Boghos Nubar, and eventually the Alex Manoogian High School, named after the AGBU President at that time.

In April, 2015, a Uruguayan postage stamp was released, to show additional solidarity, and to commemorate the centennial of the Armenian Genocide. Rodolfo Nin Novoa, the Foreign Minister of Uruguay, said this: “This stamp is abundant in its essence and sense, as it pays tribute to all the victims of the heinous crime of Genocide, which we disdain and condemn.”

In recognition of one of many events that have established a very friendly diplomatic relationship, between Armenia and Uruguay, the Uruguayan Minister of Tourism and Sport (Lilian Kechichian), the Archbishop of the Armenian Church in Uruguay (Hakob Kedenjian), and Uruguayan Foreign Minister (Rodolfo Nin Novoa) were all giving abundant praise to the rich historical relationship, between the two countries, as well as the release of the Uruguayan Centennial Armenian Genocide Postage Stamp.

Hakob Kedenjian, the Archbishop of the Armenian Church in Uruguay, said this: “We are very proud to live in this country that defends just causes because the greatness of a country is not measured by its military might, economic power, its extensive borders, but by how it defends human rights.”

I live 2km far from the armenian neightbourhood in Buenos Aires.
Armenian community is quite big and important, and I suspect that there are more than 100.000 descendants which says wikipedia and other sources.

Sometimes I go to that side, next time I'll take advantage to take some pics there!

    History of the community

A large part of the institutions of the Armenian community settled in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo. For this reason, this area is known today as "Palermian", a mixture between the name of the neighborhood and the ending "ian" of the Armenian surnames, which means "son of ...". Armenians not only brought their culture to the city, but also their memorial work on the Armenian Genocide (1915-1923).

The origins of the Armenian community date back to the first two decades of the 20th century, when many families fleeing the genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire arrived in the country.

As with many other communities, it is difficult to establish a precise number of Armenian immigrants, since when entering the country the local authorities did not consider the place of birth, but the place of origin. In this way, many appeared as coming from Greece, Syria or Lebanon, countries in which they had taken refuge from the Turkish siege. Others were even listed directly as immigrants from the Ottoman Empire. Even so, we know that, according to the 1936 census, Armenians represented 0.12 percent of the total population of the City of Buenos Aires that year. According to a survey published by the Armenia newspaper in 1942, by then their number had grown to 18,700, including those settled in the city and its surroundings.

From the second postwar period, new migratory waves arrived that were reinforced later, after the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991. It is estimated that, at present, adding the descendants of the first generations and those who arrived more recently, the community has around 40 thousand people, although other versions speak of more than 100 thousand. The vast majority (80 percent) are based in the Buenos Aires City and in some parties in the metropolitan area, especially in the area of Valentín Alsina. There is also a large community based in Córdoba.

It is not to be confused with the Armenian Cathedral of Saint Gregory the Illuminator ( Armenian Apostolic Church ).

The property on which the current structure is built was bought in 1942 where a small chapel functioned, the work of the new church took place between 1971 and 1981 when it was officially consecrated.
