My laptop decided to fuck me over. Anyway - I still have to go back because the sound isn't working. This laptop is close to five years old so it's beginning to reach the end of its life cycle.

Wake up and smell the coffee.

    Welcome back.
Which model will you buy for a replacement? And with what operating system?

I am not sure yet. The options are still open. I am the practical kind: whichever works best, offers a ton of storage space, has reasonably good specs and doesn't cost an arm and a leg... I'll take it.

Mine is also (Dell Latitude) relatively old, at the time of purchase, laptops from the corporate segment (Dell Latitude, Thinkpads T- and X- series, HP Elitebook (but I had bad experience with them)) were good, they could be disassembled, repaired and allow replacing and adding components. As for now - I don’t know, I am a little behind trends.
And they supported Linux perfectly, except for the fingerprint scanner. It will be necessary to study their modern incarnations.

Man.. I have a Asus RF10C here. That's what ? 2015, 2016 ? I think its time to go is steadily approaching but I am also still waiting for my new phone. I ordered it three days ago and still hasn't been delivered.

With phones, everything is simple for me - I usually buy the current Xiaomi Redmi. They look good, can do everything, they are very cheap and popular among developers of custom firmware.
With laptops, everything is much more complicated - even a successful model can have many revisions with components from different manufacturers. Plus, corporate models are relatively expensive, but with consumer ones things are much even worse.
