I would like to have opinions on the language of the Italian Americans and how it evolved since the first immigration in the beginning of the 20th century. I read on wikipedia that the majority of italian immigrants came from Southern Italy and they spoke more the regional dialects rather than the standard Italian language. They had to integrate into the American society and of course they had to learn and speak English. Their English accent was influenced by the dialect of the region of origin.
