Default History of Christianity's first 1,000 Years

Very informative, shows clearly how inextricably linked Europe's history is with Christianity. It is Christianity that brought European peoples together and laid the foundation for high civilization and European-wide prosperity and peace.

This isn't about the history of Protestantism or Catholicism. This is only about the first 1000 years. Spare your hatred for another thread.

Well many people, especially Protestants, won't agree with what you said. Let's leave it at that.

I didn't see anything about Armenian Christians mentioned in the Documentary. So, nope, it wasn't done right, because Armenia had an important role to play, during the 1st 1,000 years of Christianity. Armenia was the 1st country to officially convert to Christianity, and acknowledge their Christian faith as the Faith of the Nation.

The Armenian Conversion to Christianity preceded the Roman Empire's Conversion by a dozen years. The Roman Empire Converted to Christianity in 313 AD, but Armenia Converted to Christianity in 301 AD.

The Apostles Bartholomew and Thaddeus 1st introduced Christianity to Armenia, in the 1st Century AD. Saint Gregory the Illuminator later mentored King Tiridates III of Armenia (250-330), who was healed by prayers, and adopted Christianity as the country's Faith.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregory_the_Illuminator

Then came Saint Mesrop Mashtots (362-440). In 405 AD, Mesrop Mashtots designed the Armenian Alphabet in accordance with Biblical Ideas. Some of the oldest preserved Bible Relics are Armenian Bibles, they date back to 410 AD.

Later (451 - 484), Armenia successfully defended their Faith against the Sassanian Persians, whom attempted to revert Armenia back into Zorastrianism. At the Battle of Avarayr in 451 AD, 66,000 Armenian Christians withstood the weight of a Persian Army that numbered well over 200,000 men, with several hundred elephants. Their commander, Vartan Mamikonian was crushed under the elephants, but their ranks remained steadfast. By 484 AD, the beleaguered Persians conceded defeat, and Christianity sustained itself as the pillar of the People's Faith.

Armenia became wealthy from the Silk Road, in the 9th, 10th and 11th Centuries. The Kingdom's Capital, Ani, became known as "the City of 1,001 Churches". But hey! These documentaries don't seem to think it's important. Okay!

Yes, you are correct. I think they should have included the fact about Armenia, it was an important Christian development in the world. This documentary is too short to contain all information about a thousand years, however, so there are many things that would have been left out. This is more of a synopsis, a short summary focusing on the most important happenings. But yes, I agree Armenia's conversion was important enough to warrant a mention since they was the first country to adopt Christianity as national religion.

According to oral family tradition E-FT155550 comes from a deserter of Napoleon's troops (1808-1813) who stayed in Spain and changed his surname.

This documentary made me realise how important and wonderful the Byzantine Empire was... especially under Justinian I. It was a model Christian empire, with a thoroughly Christian population, and where all aspects of society were permeated with Christian principles and practice. This is very much neglected by modern historians, as one can imagine... and downplayed. There were good reasons for its eventual demise, though, all in the master plan of God.
