    Default 23andme prediction ancestry tool

    https://you.23andme.com/public/predict-my-ancestry

Basically it tries to guess what your results will be like based on other users who have the same ancestry from the places you’re parents and grandparents are from. It takes to the results from they’re interface and forms an average based on the country people have reported they’re ancestry from. For example if you put you have 4 Peruvian grandparents the tool predicted that you’ll most likely be 68-57% Amerindian based on the Peruvians that have already scored on there.

You can even mix it with other ancestry groups. For example if you put you have 1 Colombian grandparent, 1 Ecuadorian, 1 Venezuelan and 1 Panamanian the tool most likely gives you an estimate of 57-43% Southern European

It’s not perfect but it is interesting.

    Very cool!

The interesting thing is that it gives different results each time each time you press "predict." It's kind of frustrating they don't just show the average, but I guess it shows examples of typical results.

Here are a few predictions I got with 4 PR grandparents.

There have been a lot of studies. The average is probably around 20%, with some studies giving more and some less.

It also depends on the region -the West and mountains are closer to 10% on average and the East is closer to 30%.

According to the the Via study, it's around 13%.

The PRADI study is probably better because it's newer and has more samples, but they divided the regions differently. According to that study:

The Fajardo region median is 14% Amerindian. And the African median is 11%.
The Caguas region median is 11% Amerindian. And the African median is 15%

It seems like PRADI has the East as less African, but that's likely because of the way they divided the regions and where they sampled. The Caguas region they used includes many highly African Coastal areas, but also very Euro mountain areas that aren't traditionally considered part of the East. If they used the same regional definitions as the Via study, I think the results would be more similar.

I never thought Humacao was so SSA. I always knew Carolina was and it's part of the metro area.
