Ancient Anatolians looked nothing alike (genetically and phenotypically) modern day Anatolians. Iberians, Northern Italians and Basques actually have even higher "Anatolian" than Southern Italians (especially people from Bergamo, Corsicans also) ...

I don't know where you've seen "many" southern italians that look off for Europe, they are clearly a restricted minority and you will have a difficult time to pass amongst Italian natives, IMO. It's just my opinion, but I know very well Italy (in fact I've a full italian "branch" of my family), others knowledgeable people will say pretty much the same.
