As I mentioned, the vast majority of the Amish have ancestry from The Palatinate, a few are Swiss and a small amount are from Alsace. I wouldn’t say they are inbred, their perculiar looks are more to do with the fact that they came from a pretty small founder population rather than An intentional enclosed pedigree

You are mistaken, The Amish, Mennonites, and Hutterites, while all Anabaptists, share very different origins. While each group is very diverse and there are countless sub groups between each of them, there are some characteristics that make someone Amish rather than Mennonite or Hutterite. Most Conservative (Russian) Mennonites are from originally from North Western Germany, speak Plattdeutsch, and live all over the world although most traditional and conservative groups reside in North and South America. The Amish speak either a Palpatine/Alsace dialect of German or Swiss German if they are from Switzerland. The vast majority of Amish live in the U.S, a few also live in Canada. The Hutterites live in “communes” for lack of a better word, unlike the Amish or Mennonites who live in their own houses. Nearly all of Hutterites can trace their ancestry from Southern Germany, Austria, or Southern Tyrol.

It really depends. A lot of Mennonites are more liberal than most Amish groups, but there are some very conservative Mennonites who wear plain dress, ride in Horse and buggy, and incorporate less technology in their lives. There are also some Amish that readily use technology and I am aware of a group that drives cars. Keep in mind that within these groups are many, many subgroups with their own views and tendencies.
