Iberian ancestry and ability to grow a beard

We all know the famous conquistador paintings with Hernan Cortés and Francisco Pizarro. They are always shown with thick, bushy full beards.
Even today, many young Spanish men wear beards.







I have some distant Iberian ancestry from way back (on both the British and French sides of my family) and I could already grow a full beard at the age of 16.
Is there a connection between Iberian heritage and the ability to grow a full beard?

Yes, beyond aesthetic or cultural reasons, in Spain and Portugal there are many people with beards because on average they have a lot of facial hair. On this map you can see that the Mediterranean people and the Scandinavian people are the ones with the most facial hair, that's why it is so common to see Scandinavian and Mediterranean people with beards.






For myself, I could grow a beard at 16 yrs old.

Depends on the individual, some grow full beards, others have very weak facial hair. Maybe this is more noticeable in the new world when compared to amerindians but here it means nothing.

Yeah, in Latin America it must be a sign of high European ancestry when a mestizo can grow a full beard.
