What are common misconceptions about the outsided world in your country?

I'll start with my country's people and popular misconceptions among them.

1. That Latin Americans are really mostly more or less unmixed Spaniards.

2. That Arabs are basically blacks! Even the main online Romanian dictionary claims Arabs are a population of negroid race.

3. That white Americans are mostly relatively unmixed British people.

4. That Afro-Americans are something like 30-40% of the US population. Considering their overrepresentation in recent movies and tv shows, this is almost understandable...

5. That "Latinos" are something like 30-40% of the population of the US. I heard a Romanian journalist say this and then he referred to a trip he made to LA. The dumb fuck thinks Los Angeles is representative for all the US.

6. That the West is almost all Catholic. The dumb shits don't even know what Protestants are and have little idea about how widespread irreligion is in the modern West. It's not even funny that a dumb shit politician and tv channel owner once said that we must have more respect for Catholicism, because Europe is almost all Catholic and even gave Germany as an example. I also know a guy who is a jurist and who in high school though that even the US and Bulgaria are predominantly Catholic!

These are only some common misconceptions many Romanians have about the outside world. Yes, we have a lot of ignorant and stupid fucking people. Funny thing is Romanians pride themselves on being clever and even well educated.

Hmm, almost the same in Hungary, maybe except for the last one. Also, my other ,,favorite'' is when uneducated retards say that all far-eastern people are Chinese, or simply chinks.. Or a common thing between ,,educated'' pensioners, that all Africans are criminals..

Not specific to any one country but broad stereotypes/misconceptions in the English speaking world:

-Americans are dumb (White Americans are ignorant, especially about anything not American, but not dumb)
-Most Europeans speak passable English
-Eastern Europe (everything east of Germany/Austria/Italy) is mainly one large cultural block, that looks something like Pripyat
-Welsh are darker than in reality
-Germans have no sense of humour (maybe partially true)
-Romanian Gypsies in Britain are just considered Romanians
-A lot of the stereotypes of Irish people in Britain come from Irish Travellers/pikeys
-In Australia (and the US), English people are usually stereotyped as snobbish upper class or upper middle class types
-Blacks are a much larger percentage of the US than in reality (this is due to the constant media and political attention they've been given for decades)

That´s not far from being true, the census doesn´t count illegal latinos.

Los Angeles is basically a mexican-central american city with some pockets from other origins.
