What are common misconceptions about the outsided world in your country?

-Europe is a country
-Arabs and Indians are the same race and look the same
-Africa is a country
-Iran and all the countries ending in "stan" are Arab countries
-Iraq was responsible for 9/11
-Mexicans are a "race"
-Only Chinese, Japanese, and Koreans are Asians

That´s not far from being true, the census doesn´t count illegal latinos.

Los Angeles is basically a mexican-central american city with some pockets from other origins.

I think your average mature American has more misconceptions about our own country than the outside world.

Well, many Arabs think that most Americans are those White southerners wearing cowboy hats, drinking canned beer, speaking thick southern accent and so on. We don't see Aframs and others as "real' Americans. Many of my Arab friends think of Romania as a land of werewolves and vampires, up-beat techno and Euro-pop music, Dracula(obviously) and resembling more or less like rural Russia. We think of Scots as those in the movie, Braveheart, and the English as those wearing a top hat and tuxedo, twirled mustaches, drinking tea and biscuits, big ben, the Queen and so on. The Irish as those who are very energetic and fun to be with(at least for us Palestinians). Greeks as philosophers and civilization(far from it in reality, and I'm ashamed to ever befriend them). Italians as opera singers and Rome.

Not specific to any one country but broad stereotypes/misconceptions in the English speaking world:

-Americans are dumb (White Americans are ignorant, especially about anything not American, but not dumb)
-Most Europeans speak passable English
-Eastern Europe (everything east of Germany/Austria/Italy) is mainly one large cultural block, that looks something like Pripyat
-Welsh are darker than in reality
-Germans have no sense of humour (maybe partially true)
-Romanian Gypsies in Britain are just considered Romanians
-A lot of the stereotypes of Irish people in Britain come from Irish Travellers/pikeys
-In Australia (and the US), English people are usually stereotyped as snobbish upper class or upper middle class types
-Blacks are a much larger percentage of the US than in reality (this is due to the constant media and political attention they've been given for decades)

As for your last point, many Brits overestimate the size of the non-white population in Britain itself too - it is around 16%, but various surveys show that most think it is about 25%.
