    Default French Canadians

What region(s) of France did most French Canadians come from and how genetically related are French Canadians to the pre and post Roman Gaulish inhabitants?

Very few came from Occitan speaking regions.

This is the most complete data on their origins I've found: https://www.erudit.org/fr/revues/cgq...2/021058ar.pdf

A lot came from what is now Nouvelle-Aquitaine, but mainly from northern/central parts (like Poitou-Charentes).

As for genetics, French-Canadian average is nearly the same as French (or, specifically, Central French) average.

Unless they have minor indigenous admixture from the east coast, which isn't uncommon. Maybe more prevalent in Acadians rather than Quebecois, I am not sure.

Ok, thank you. I've heard the biggest areas were Poitou-Charentes, Normandy, Pays de la Loire, and Paris, but I wasn't sure. What does the central France cluster look like, genetically. Are they mostly Gallic or does it have other admixtures?
