Agrippina Vaganova (Vaganian), the great mother of Russian ballet

The founder of Russian ballet, Michelangelo of choreography, Agrippina the Great and Terrible - this is what Agrippina Vaganova is called.

Agrippina was born in Armenian family in St. Petersburg in 1879. In 1888, she was admitted to the Imperial Theater School. After graduating from college, she was accepted into the ballet troupe of the Mariinsky Theater, and a few years later became a soloist in it and was a stunning success. Vaganova’s variations will remain among the legends of ballet art forever... Vaganova has shown phenomenal flight skills with prolonged fading in the air. She breaks off without a start and hangs motionless for several seconds in the air. The whole audience applauded.

After completing a career on the ballet stage Agrippina Vaganova achieved no less success in the teaching field. She found and lit many new stars of Russian ballet stage including the most titled ballerina of the Russian ballet Galina Ulanova

Now after Vaganova named the Academy of Russian Ballet in St. Petersburg - "Академия Русского балета имени А. Я. Вагановой"

Garik Israelian, an Armenian astrophysicist and scientist, founder of Starmus Festival

Garik Israelian led the team which found the first observational evidence that supernova explosions are responsible for the formation of stellar mass black holes.

Garik Israelian proposed the so-called "Lithium-6 test" aiming to check if a star has engulfed a planet or other gaseous or solid matter. An international team of scientists led by Israelian has provided the explanation of anomaly low abundance of lithium in the atmosphere of the Sun, and linked this fact with the presence of planets in the solar system.

Garik Israelian was born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1963.

Israelian has since worked as a lecturer and researcher in Utrecht (Netherlands), Brussels (Belgium), and Sydney (Australia). Since 1997 he has worked at the Institute of Astrophysics, Canary Islands (IAC), and as a professor at the University of La Laguna, Tenerife.

Israelian has published more than 250 scientific articles on subjects ranging from the discovery of extrasolar planets to the properties of low mass x-ray binaries with black holes and neutron stars.
