Agrippina Vaganova (Vaganian), the great mother of Russian ballet
The founder of Russian ballet, Michelangelo of choreography, Agrippina the Great and Terrible - this is what Agrippina Vaganova is called.
Agrippina was born in Armenian family in St. Petersburg in 1879. In 1888, she was admitted to the Imperial Theater School. After graduating from college, she was accepted into the ballet troupe of the Mariinsky Theater, and a few years later became a soloist in it and was a stunning success. Vaganova’s variations will remain among the legends of ballet art forever... Vaganova has shown phenomenal flight skills with prolonged fading in the air. She breaks off without a start and hangs motionless for several seconds in the air. The whole audience applauded.
After completing a career on the ballet stage Agrippina Vaganova achieved no less success in the teaching field. She found and lit many new stars of Russian ballet stage including the most titled ballerina of the Russian ballet Galina Ulanova
