Interesting short documentary on the small Swiss decendant Colony found in Uruguay called Nueva Helvecia.

I like the part they talk about how the swiss brought the high quality cheese knowledge yet now we say it’s “uruguayan cheese” (colonia type), but it’s fair, because all those swiss along with the rest who came from abroad conformed this country. So It’s only fair to give the credit for such developements to Uruguay because it’s all that mix that conforms the country itself.

This is parellel to many cases all through Latin America, in which a group of people (for instance here in DR with the Lebanese or los Canarios) comes to your country and forms part of it, integrates but yet gives a small piece of their knowledge and culture in a positive light towards your already established culture, in this case Uruguay.

Keep in mind this was not a closed community. The immigration happened 150-200 years ago, and the Swiss mixed for several generations with the rest of the population so those people in the pics are not 100% Swiss, but a mix with the rest of ethnicities that conforms Uruguay.

Yes Def diluted because of all those years. But I wouldn't be surprised if more then half, have strong presence of central European/ Typical Swiss haplogroups in their lineage, as compare to the rest of Uruguay.
